I am an international speaker, passionate coach and mentor, transformational hospitality thought leader and contributing author. My professional career spans over thirty years in the hospitality, academic, and non-profit industries. I currently serve as Vice President of Operations for Creative Dining Services of Zeeland, MI. I hold an Associate of Science degree, Bachelor of Science degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality Studies and Master of Business Administration in Hospitality.
My professional credentials include Certified Food and Beverage Executive (CFBE) by the American Hotel and Lodging Association, Food Management Professional (FMP) by the National Restaurant Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality (FIH), Surrey, United Kingdom, Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional (CDM, CFPP) by the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals, Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Professional CLSSBBP)by the Six Sigma Global Institute, Certified Food Safety Manager (CFSM) by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, Certified Personality Temperament Facilitator, Certified ServSafe Instructor and Registered ServSafe Examination Proctor and former Visiting Faculty Member in the School of Business of North Carolina Central University in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Administration.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is the opportunity to be a “servant leader” and actively engage with our dedicated team by working together towards a common goal to provide operational excellence and consistently great service to our clients and customers.
How do you try to make an impact?
I try to make an impact by being available to serve others, giving more to others than expected, be an encourager and motivator to others, live my values daily, and most importantly invest in people.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
Black History Month is a historical milestone to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans where many have become the “unsung heroes” of the nation. It is an opportunity to look back at the perseverance, tenacity, resilience, dedication, and the challenges that African Americans have faced and continue to overcome. It is an opportunity to share the rich heritage of our diverse nation.
How can SHFM members celebrate Black History Month
SHFM members can celebrate Black History Month by consistently acknowledging the contributions of African Americans, especially in the hospitality industry. SHFM can host webinars, workshops and share articles to continue to highlight African American’s roles in our ever changing industry.
