SHFM Gives Back

SHFM is dedicated to helping those in need in the foodservice and hospitality industries. Please consider supporting these initiatives.

Hunger Awareness Initiative
Each year SHFM conference attendees come together during our annual hunger awareness activity for an afternoon of fun and networking. In addition to providing an entertaining event, this portion of conference also offers an opportunity for SHFM to give back to the local community. Thanks to the generosity of SHFM members we have raised thousands of dollars to support local hunger initiatives in our conference cities.

Check out SHFM's Facebook page for pictures of last year's Hunger Games 4 event.

With the enormous success of the previous SHFM Hunger Awareness Activities, you won’t want to miss this year’s event the SHFM Hunger Game Show! This year's event presents a new spin, bigger than ever, and includes the friendly (well, mostly friendly!) competition you have come to love. You’ll be placed on a highly competitive team to match wits in a game show activity with the goal of earning points for trivia knowledge. Categories to be announced through this website, so stay tuned. The team earning the most points earns 2018 Bragging Rights!

Best of all, proceeds from this year’s event benefit Equal Heart, a Dallas organization that rescues unwanted food and redistributes it to food insecure communities through their mobile food pantry program. So, join the SHFM Game Show Hosts on Wednesday, September 26th from 4:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and get ready to compete and raise money for a great cause!

Check out Equal Heart’s website and video to learn more.
We look forward to you joining us for this fun filled event! Click here for further information from the Industry Advisory Board.

The SHFM Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports higher education through scholarships and student outreach programs. The Foundation is committed to the continued growth of our vital industry, which drives productivity and morale for millions of American workers every day. The Foundation offers scholarships to students that have gained acceptance into a full-time restaurant/foodservice or hospitality-related post-secondary program. In addition to the scholarships, the Foundation offers funding to colleges/universities that offer or are interested in offering a corporate foodservice or workplace hospitality course. Several schools are awarded this grant.

The Foundation holds several events throughout the year to raise funds for these very important programs. At the 2018 National Conference the Foundation is supporting the following events:

SHFM Silent Auction
The auction raises funds to promote and educate college students on the merits of onsite foodservice and hospitality. The SHFM Foundation develops outreach programs to attract the best college students to the onsite industry, so please support this important cause on Tuesday, September 25th and Wednesday, September 26th. Click here to donate an auction item.
SHFM Scholarship Showdown
This year's event on Tuesday, September 25th will provide another great mentoring opportunity for each student as they work with our corporate chefs during a culinary competition. Each student will prepare a dish for attendees to sample and vote on which student's station they like best. The winner of the competition will receive a scholarship from the Foundation.

Student Day
On Thursday, September 27th, SHFM will host a number of selected culinary and hospitality students from the Fort Worth area as they join us for the day's sessions and SHFM industry presenters. Become a mentor and help welcome these students to SHFM’s Student Day. Mentors will be asked to sit with their students at lunch. Please sign-up to be a mentor in registration; you’ll receive further details closer to conference.
